MEINKLANG
Burgenland, Eastern Austria
As much as we love to celebrate the crafty small timers, what the world needs today is a model of a successful eco business writ large. Meinklang is proof that you can be totally ginormous and uphold the highest standard of environmental ethics. Benchmark farmers in the biodynamic movement, their wines encompass the full gamut of styles with clean, classic table wines comfortably sharing space with totally raw, mind boggling, experimental concoctions and we love it all!
CLASSICS
Burgenland White

Gruner Veltiner, Welschriesling and Muskat vinified and raised in steel tanks. This is one of those ultimate regional whites that is just universally delightful.

Burgenland Red

Zwiegelt, Blaufrankish and Sankt Laurent fermented with a semi-carbonic approach to give the wine a little flirtatious bounce!

Gruner Veltiner

Super clean young-vine Gruner Veltliner all in steel.

Prosa Frizzante

This wine has been a big part of our company from the very beginning! Pinot Noir and some mystery friends directly pressed and spritzed for a little fizz in the glass.

CURIOSITIES
Mulatschack Roter

A funky nod to the hipster wine bar. Blaufrankish and Zwiegelt picked real late and cofermented whole cluster. Pressed early to preserve that earthy juicey, raw thing.

Mulatschack Weisser

A blend of skin fermented aromatic white grapes aged for a quick 2 months in steel.

Fusion Cider

A cider of Hungarian Topaz apples fermented without curing or maceration fed with a little Gruner Veltliner must just before bottling to really zero in on just the right amount of bubble.

Graupert Pinot Gris

Skin fermented Pinot Gris from an experimental, unpruned vineyard aged in concrete eggs producing a wine that pretty much feels like drinking Autumn.

Graupert Zwiegelt

Unpruned vines of Zwiegelt yield compact berries producing a more deeply structured wine than the Beaujolais adjacent Zwiegelt people are familiar with. Super earthy and age worthy.

SOMLO
Just across the border into Hungary is the legendary hill of Somlo, a small volcanic hill responsible for the most famous wines of Hungary during the Hapsburg period. Considered one of the world’s greatest terroirs, Meinklang was fortunate enough to grab hold of a small pair of old vineyards to which they’ve applied their biodynamic sensibilities and produced some really special wines.
H17

A clean, characterful rendition of Somlo’s smoky, salty terroir. Unlike most of the local wines this is pure Harslevelu (usually blended) fermented and aged in steel.

Juhfark

Juhfark is one of Somlo’s iconic varieties, in this case treated a little more like it’s ripe, lightly oxidative neighbors. Barrel aged, potent and typified by the brackish, waxen character of Somlo.

DAYTIME WINES
Just across the border into Hungary is the legendary hill of Somlo, a small volcanic hill responsible for the most famous wines of Hungary during the Hapsburg period. Considered one of the world’s greatest terroirs, Meinklang was fortunate enough to grab hold of a small pair of old vineyards to which they’ve applied their biodynamic sensibilities and produced some really special wines.
Morgen

A heady rose of Sankt Laurent briefly whole cluster macerated before pressing. A lively, turbid wine with tons of aromatics and a crunchy, salty thing we just adore.

Tag

From a single, cooler block of Gruner Veltliner, Tag is the most classically styled of the Daytime wines with an almost Burgundian feel.

Nacht

The OG of the Daytime wines is this fascinating Pinot Noir that remains uncrushed in whole bunches for two weeks after picking. The ensuing wine is like Beaujolais from the moon.
